May Meeting: More than just good questions: Helping people evaluate their behavior in coaching
Our first meeting will feature author and intrinsic motivation expert Doug Walker discussing ideas from his book A-ha Performance. Doug will present his ALDEEP model of coaching which highlights the critical role of an individual’s evaluation of their own behavior as part of change. If you’ve only been using the GROW model to ask four kinds of coaching questions, you may be missing the opportunity to tie your approach to a larger theory of how/why people change based on their own cost/benefit decision making.
If you liked Daniel Pink’s book Drive on intrinsic motivation, you’ll love having a model on how individuals decide what actions will meet their needs. Doug’s model of coaching was developed after years of working directly under Dr. William Glasser, founder of the modern approach to counseling called Reality Therapy, and was adopted as the “meta-model” for the SDSU Coaching Certificate Program. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, observe, ask questions, and meet others using coaching in their organizations.
